Daito Ryu Seminar a success in Italy
summary provided by Mr. James Mullins
Sensei began the seminar with a focus on the Aiki no Jutsu techniques
of Daito Ryu. Various techniques were delved into for two hours. Sensei
explained how successful performance of these techniques requires
more of a focus on gravity and body movements, rather than strength.
Then, during a break, some participants inquired about nikkajo techniques,
so Sensei transitioned into some tachiai and ushiro techniques from
the nikkajo. These were practiced for another two hours. As the 'flavor'
of Aiki no Jutsu techniques and nikkajo techniques differ, all participants
were able to practice two completely different sets of Daito Ryu techniques.
After the seminar, Sensei was presented with a plaque of appreciation
from Maestro Rocco LaGuardia of Taranto.

On February 28-29, Russel Haskin from Hakuho Ryu Japan paid our Montreal dojo his second visit. There was an impressive attendance as, with an air of comeraderie, Mr. Haskin conducted an enlightening exposition of some profound Hakuho Ryu body movements and techniques. In addition to his presence, he has left us with some words of his own to consider. Follow the link above to read the article, or go to our gallery to see some pictures taken during that weekend.

Special thanks to Sensei Raynald Fleury, chief instructor of the Seuin Maru Dojo for inviting us to participate in a seminar on the 30th of November 2003. It was enjoyed by all and was a great opportunity to practice with martial artists of different backgrounds.

In February 2003, Medhat Darwish, David Biron and Anton Deinekin of the Koryukan Dojo enjoyed the great experience of traveling to Japan. We would like to thank Okabayashi Shogen Sensei and all of the Hakuho Ryu members in Japan for receiving us with great hospitality. A special thanks to Steve Richter, who was kind enough to host us at his house and take the time to show us around Japan, and all this during what was for him the busiest time of the year due to work. Also a special thank you to Rod Uhler for organizing and coordinating this trip, and receiving us during what was for him an equally busy time of the year due to work.
